Conan's New Show

Conan O'Brien is returning to TV in November on TBS. Despite being on cable, I think the show is going to do great in the ratings. There were plenty of fans that wanted Conan to remain as Tonght Show host, and I am sure these people will tune in. TBS currently is featuring the George Lopez show, but Conan is a notch above him, clearly, as far as appeal. Most Americans have cable these days, so I dont think this will hinder the show.
The target audience is likely 18-40 year olds. This is  the demographic that feels Jay Leno's talk show appeals to those mainly that remember TV before technicolor. Once "Conan" gets its' feet under it, I am sure it will be a lasting success.

  1. Having loved Conan when he was on NBC, I found it completely riduculous that he signed a contract with NBC that he could never return to broadcast televsion. However when I realized that he was coming to cable network I had to laugh because he was pretty much saying F*** you to the networks and Jay Leno. He doesn't need late night televsion to be a success; he's already got a legion of followers and fans. I have a sneaky feeling that this was the right move for him.

  2. Is there any other show that is a more slam dunk than this? Conan is the good guy to NBC's evil corporate giant. He has the support of so many people that seemed poised to follow him to TBS. This show could very well take TBS to new heights and change the face of late night talk shows. If Conan is a success other cable networks would no doubt follow suit, we could see a late night talk show on ESPN featuring a colorful ex player like Keyshawn Johnson or an MTV talk show featuring a former popular musical personality, former failed hosts like Craig Kilborn or hosts floundering in mediocre like Carson Daly could become hot commodities to networks looking for experience to get into the late night game. I think this show will have the most impact, regardless Conan fans are no doubt awaiting the returns of Triumph, Andy and the Masturbating Bear. I agree with you about the show being a lasting success.

  3. I have been waiting for Conan to do something...but why TBS? I think it will still be funny, it has to be at least a Little funny. But TBS is a total family channel- i don't care what time of day it is, there is always a nuclear family watching TBS somewhere in America.

And like ol' Danny Brown above me said "fans are no doubt awaiting the returns of Triumph, Andy and the Masturbating Bear." I will be waiting to see the Masturbating Bear, yet i worry that the Bear will not return. it's not PC.
